Warnings and Risk Communication

Warnings and Risk Communication
Michael S. Wogalter (Editor), Kenneth R. Laughery (Editor), Dave M. Dejoy (Editor)

Reviews, organizes, and synthesizes the recent theory and research regarding safety warnings, which have been buoyed of late by simulations that allow experimentation without injuring the control group and studies into the mental processes that precede compliance or not, and driven by rising health costs and fear of litigation and increasing government regulation. After an overview and an outline of the theoretical framework, covers methods and techniques for investigating the effectiveness of warnings, research at the several stages of the communication and information processing framework, guidance on warning development, and legal aspects in the US. Human Factors Perspectives on Warnings

Human Factors Perspectives on Warnings: Selections from Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Annual Meetings 1980-1993
Kenneth R. Laughery,Sr. (Editor), Michael S. Wogalter (Editor), Stephen L. Young (Editor)

Contains 55 full papers, 36 abstracts, and more than 100 reference citations from past HFES annual meeting safety technical sessions. Also includes author and subject indexes (HFES).

Human Factors Perspectives on Warnings II

Human Factors Perspectives on Warnings II: Selections from Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Annual Meetings, 1994-2000, Vol. 2
Michael S. Wogalter (Editor), Stephen L. Young (Editor), Kenneth R. Laughery,Sr. (Editor)

Topics include warnings on printed labels, insert sheets, product manuals, signs, and speech commands. Warning effectiveness is assessed by speed, comprehension, memory, judgment, and behavioral compliance measures. Warning application include labeling on or accompanying consumer products, signs in industrial workplaces and public spaces, and the potential of voiced warnings. Includes an index (HFES).

Human Factors Perspectives on Human-Computer Interaction

Human Factors Perspectives on Human-Computer Interaction

Editors Gary Perlman, Georgia K. Green, and Michael S. Wogalter supervised the review and selection of more than 3500 papers to arrive at 79 of the best papers presented at HFES meetings in the last fifteen years. Topics include human aspects such as vision, error, aging, and novice vs. expert users and machine aspects such as displays, input devices, and software design. The papers followed a number of methodologies: empirical studies, models/theories, development, case studies, and surveys. Also included are author and subject indexes (HFES).

Ergonomics and Musculoskeletal Disorders

Ergonomics and Musculoskeletal Disorders: Research on Manual Materials Handling, 1983-1996
Waldemar Karwowski (Editor), Michael S. Wogalter (Editor), Patrick G. Dempsey (Editor)

Injuries associated with manual materials handling (MMH) represent the single largest source of losses in many industries, costing billions of dollars for workers' compensation, medical care, and lost wages. These losses explain why the research directed toward the prevention of MMH-related injuries in the industrial workplace has been one of the most active areas of the field of industrial ergonomics. This book contains 61 of the best MMH papers from the last 14 years of HFES Annual Meeting proceedings, one of the foremost sources of basic and applied research in this area (HFES).
